چند شرکت چینی نیز مشغول توسعه نسخه های خود از « چت جی پی تی» هستند و برخی نیز مدعی شده اند فاصله اندکی تا ارائه نسخه های خود از این چت بات برای عموم مردم دارند.
البته چین سابقه ای طولانی در مسدود کردن وب سایت های خارجی دارد. دولت این کشور گوگل، فیس بوک، یوتیوب و توئیتر را در سال های ۲۰۰۹ تا ۲۰۱۰ میلادی ممنوع کرد. همچنین در سال های ۲۰۱۸ و ۲۰۱۹ میلادی دولت چین ردیت و ویکی پدیا را ممنوع کرد.
اکنون نیز نشریه «نیکی آسیا» گزارش داده شرکت های تنسنت و آنت گروپ دستوری دریافت کرده اند تا دسترسی به «چت جی پی تی» از طریق پلتفرم هایشان را ارائه نکنند. شرکت های فناوری در چین همچنین باید قبل از ارائه سرویس هایی مانند چت جی پی تی به رگولاتورها گزارش دهند.
سرویس مذکور به طور رسمی در چین ارائه نشده است. بسیاری از شرکت های طرف ثالث با استفاده از اپ وی چت، نسخه هایی ساده از چت بات های هوش مصنوعی ساخته اند. طبق گزارش منتشر شده تنسنت چند سرویس هوش مصنوعی شرکت های طرف ثالث را به دلیل فشار رگولاتوری تعلیق کرده است.
